Nagarhole National Park lies to the north of the Kabini river (the Bandipur national park lies to the south of it), spreading over 643.39 sq.
kms. A dam on the Kabini river and its scenic reservoir demarcate the two parks. At
Nagarhole, too, there are fine facilities for some good wildlife-watching and sizeable groups of gaur, elephants,
sambar, chital and even an occasional tiger or leopard can be spotted. The other inhabitants of the Park are the
muntjac, the tiny mouse deer, giant squirrel, slender
loris, wild boar, langurs and macaques. The Park boasts around 250 species of birds, which include the Malabar
trogan, the Malabar pied hornbill, the great black woodpecker, the Indian pitta and the green imperial pigeon. The jungle cat, leopard cat and the rusty spotted cat are the residents of the Park.
